Hancock Street
This mixed-income, mixed-use revitalization project transforms an entire city block by constructing 59 new affordable apartments, 12 new for-sale and for-rent townhomes, a Head Start facility, and a commercial office suite.
In addition, two city streets were reconstructed to eliminate automobile traffic, create a playground, and form a path that connects to a larger bike path network and links the neighborhood to the six-mile-long Cayuga Waterfront Trail – a major tourist, recreational and economic development asset in the region.
The Early Head Start facility is operated by Tompkins Community Action, a non-profit community development organization. It will provide early education to 30 low-income children between the ages of 0 and 3. The Head Start program also provides nutrition, wellness, and parenting classes to low-income families.
