Rural Emergency Hospital

HOLT is currently working with Clifton-Fine Hospital to design a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department and Diagnostic Imaging Suite for the rural community of Star Lake. This project will both expand and renovate portions of the existing hospital to provide the highest quality of patient care, staff support, design resiliency and flexibility for the future. Project highlights include:

In a post-pandemic world, flexibility has become a crucial factor in healthcare design. The spaces in the new addition are programmed for multiple uses to maximize efficiency while minimizing overall square footage. The trauma room can also function as an emergency surgical space or a labor and delivery area with infant resuscitation. The isolation room is connected with an exterior decontamination space to allow patients to bypass the main corridors for infection prevention. Emergency exam rooms are all private and include operable direct exhaust so spaces can be converted to isolation rooms if needed for pandemic or surge situations. Control doors have also been provided to allow the unit to be subdivided as needed based on census and infection isolation needs.

The Clifton-Fine project showcases the Adirondack vernacular through an invigorating color palette and organic, natural appearing materials. The design is intended to breathe life and comfort into program spaces where patients and staff often experience high-stress situations. Materials include non-PVC wall protection and resilient sheet flooring, bio-based resilient floor tile, wood-look bleach cleanable wall coverings, acoustical tack panels, solid surface countertops and warm stone tile in the bathrooms.
