Head Neck & Dental Clinic

Roswell Park Head, Neck, and Dental Renovation is a redesign of the existing outpatient dental clinic. The renovation was part of a larger clinic renovation project. During the design, HOLT worked with a dental equipment vendor (A-dec) to design a dental treatment room, two closed operatories, six open operatories, and a lab for plaster work. Support spaces included workrooms and offices. For doctors and staff, the dental treatment room also serves as a teaching space for students to view specific dental treatments.

This clinic is unique not so much in design, but in function. It is specifically for patients needing dental work related to cancer treatment. The services they provide are primarily dental restorations that often become necessary due to the inevitable damage resulting from treating head, neck, and dental cancers.

The goals of this project were to support the needs of the dental clinic by creating consistency in the operatories while providing levels of support and safety to match the needs of the patients. The lab was also redesigned to create more efficiency and match the needs of this state-of-the-art facility.

HOLT met with the dentistry professors to understand their goals and preferences for how the clinic flows. We then coordinated with the vendor on layout and equipment options and with our consultants for utility designs to support the equipment. HOLT also worked with the owner’s project management on specific equipment selections and counts for bid documentation. During construction, HOLT managed the final review of the equipment order, finish selections, and field layout confirmation.
