The Space

HOLT worked with SUNY Oswego to reimagine a student activity center in the Marano Campus Center called The Space. The renovation included removing all elements related to its previous occupancy (men’s and women’s locker rooms) and the design of a new multi-purpose area for student activities, events, and programs. A new elevator and entrance at the basement level was also incorporated for accessibility.

The Space provides meeting and activity space for any of the over 200 student clubs and organizations, including Greek life, athletics, fine and performing arts, student interests, cultural groups, politics, E-sports, and more.

An important feature of the design of The Space is that it includes five gender-inclusive bathrooms. The single stall bathrooms use bright colors and lighting to create a fun and safe environment. Having inclusivity in The Space allows for students who host and attend events in this area to feel welcome and safe.
