Illick 5 Lecture Hall

HOLT transformed an outdated 1960’s classroom space into an accessible, technology-rich, flagship lecture hall that would be incorporated into campus tours and help draw students to the campus.

The design underscores the SUNY ESF brand and incorporates a wood ceiling canopy to symbolize the importance of nature and the environment to the ESF community. A fresh, bright color palette welcomes students and offers them an enlivening, engaging space to learn.

Seminar-style tables and swivel chairs enhance the ease in which students can sit and move around the space. An extra-large dual rear projection screen, dry-erase and chalk boards, audio drops, and instructor task lighting and controls enhance visibility, audio accessibility, and a variety of teaching styles.

The project also included a major ADA retrofit to provide universal access to the lowest level and enhancements to the corridor with new student waiting bench, USB chargers, and an updated finish palette.
