Conversion of the natatorium in Moffett Center is the first step toward improving academic facilities in the building.

Anthropology and Sociology finally have a permanent home among their Arts and Sciences colleagues. The project is the first in a multi-phase building renovation plan. The planning of new MEP systems were thoughtfully designed to insure that the future phases could be smoothly implemented.

The design takes advantage of the high ceiling of the former natatorium. Offices are inserted into this space and share natural light brought into the large space from large tall windows. Clusters of offices share common space to be used for collaborative and informal scholarly exchange between students and faculty as well as between faculty. A multi-functional space located on the main pedestrian path through the building will accommodate seminar use as well as house the Department of Anthropology's collection. A new entrance on the west side of the building will help improve pedestrian traffic connections between Moffett and adjacent academic buildings on campus.
