PROJECT SIZE :
This new location consisted of renovating an existing, single-story building in a shopping/business plaza. The exterior fenestration was intended to be contextual with the plaza, while at the same time introducing new elements of interest. The interior is an open plan with exposed structure and an abundance of natural light pouring into the cardio and strength areas. The group fitness room has high ceilings and a hardwood dance floor. Special attention was given to acoustical absorption as well as acoustical isolation. The locker, shower and sauna areas were designed with amenities as well as durable attractive finishes.
This project was very cost sensitive. In order to help the owner get firm numbers early in the process a design/estimating charrette was held. It involved the architect, engineering consultant as well as the fitness center and building owners. At this charrette the floor plan was tested, and systems and finishes were selected. This allowed decisions to be made in a group setting with everyone working as a team. This original cost structure developed early in the process was instrumental during the further design of the project.
