As medical centers grow in size the need for on-site modern training space becomes increasingly critical.

These educational centers promote excellence with in-service training and community education programs, and often serve as the common ground between medical centers and the communities they serve. HOLT met this need for the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca with the Bonnie Howard Howell Education Center. Its ground floor location between the main hospital and the medical office building permits easy access for the public and hospital staff alike. The center is actually a suite of flexible rooms designed to serve different size gatherings, each outfitted with the latest technology to create maximum user flexibility. Four meeting spaces include a large divisible 50-seat training room, a traditional 12-seat conference room, a small computer classroom, and special heart code training room. Rooms are equipped with video projection, internet and satellite connectivity. The suite includes flexible instructional teaching walls, furniture storage and a kitchenette. Circulation hallways are lined with glass display cases for educational materials. Oak doors, paneling and trim throughout the suite create a warm and substantial impression. The main training room is bathed in soft top light from a pair of butterfly rooftop light monitors. Motorized black-out shades can readily darken the room if required.
