The Gateway Commons project, which includes 25 apartments and 2 retail units is located at the edge of the Ithaca Downtown Commons pedestrian outdoor mall bordering Six Mile Creek.

The environmental focus of this 43,000 square foot, 6-story building includes many energy efficiency amenities, maximized use of natural daylight and roof-top gardens for tenants. It is a model of sustainability through environmentally responsible building design and construction, and long-term energy conservation.

 

The building design was developed to take advantage of the unique site location - a narrow strip of land between the downtown city and the natural beauty of Six Mile Creek. The apartments on the north side of the building overlook the city and incorporate urban design elements including bay windows, while the southern elevation overlooks Six Mile Creek and features elements such as French balconies to allow residents to experience nature outside their windows with unobstructed views.

 

This building has received Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.
